Set up Koala on your computer
Start with your account, then choose how you want to use Koala.
You can get started in your browser
The desktop beta uses your existing Koala account. Prefer to get started without installing anything? Your browser works too.
Open Koala1. Have your invitation or account ready
If your employer, university or supplier gave you Koala, follow the instructions they sent with your invitation or licence. Installing the app does not activate a licence.
Already using Koala? Use the same account and sign-in method. You do not need to create a second account for the desktop app.
2. Check how your work computer is managed
Your IT team may install apps for you or require approval first. Ask them how Koala should be installed on your computer. You can keep using the browser version while they arrange this.
3. Choose the installer for your computer
On a Mac, choose Apple Silicon or Intel on the download page. To check which you have, open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. “Chip” means Apple Silicon; “Processor” identifies an Intel Mac.
Open the downloaded DMG, drag Koala into Applications, then open Koala from Applications and sign in. You can eject the disk image after installing.
On a Windows computer, download Koala for Windows, open the installer and follow its setup steps. The combined installer includes x64 and ARM64 versions.
Open Koala from the Start menu after installing, then sign in with your existing account.
4. Keep Koala up to date
Koala checks for updates while it is open and downloads them in the background. When an update is ready, choose when to restart. Choose Later if you are in the middle of something.
You can check manually from Koala > Check for Updates on Mac, or Help > Check for Updates on Windows. If your organisation manages updates, follow your IT team's instructions.
Already have Mac version 0.1.1 or Windows version 0.1.0? Install the latest version from the download page once to enable in-app updates.
